60's 70's Garage, Rock, Blues, Soul & Country

I live in College Station TX. I collect vinyl records starting back in the early 70's. I like many genres of music. Hooked on classic retro film. I listen mostly to music from the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's. See My Archive Favorites for a wealth of free music downloads. Previously all saved favorites were a simple text description until the new site makeover in 2015.

Garage-punk band from Moscow. Founded in 2007. The idea was just to play raw punk and rock-n-roll as we all heard on New York Dolls early demos. Andrey worked in music mag and played bass in friendly heavy metal band. And suddenly understood - he's got something to say. Each song is a true story about streets, girls, drugs and so on. Mess. played lots of gigs in Moscow, St.-Petersburg, Kyiv, Vladimir, Nizhny Novgorod. Some of gigs they can hardly remember. In 2010 the band recorded 1-st LP...

Originally released in 1995 on Billy Childish's Hangman's Daughter label, this is the universally acclaimed debut LP of the legendary (in as much as they didn't actually exist) Hove (ex-Cambridge) group. Some call it garage, some call it punk, some call it garage-punk, and others leave out the hyphen. Who cares?! This is uh da bombe.

I submit to general attention the second collection from the The Time Meddler series. This time there will be no strong genre dispersion as in previous and its concept is under construction round modern groups playing garage rock and garage punk. It is presented only seven, but nevertheless interesting groups. Someone stopped the activity, and someone on a turn only starts developing it roughly only. As the booklet, or quicker the parody to it is attached to compilation. Well I generally not...

Another beer soaked Garagey-Punk band from Cleveland, OH. Much of the music could be characterized as guitar-heavy, proto-punk without all the busy two-minute solos that seem to muddy the sound of their riffy-rock peers. Think Pagans meets Dead Boys cumming onto some Faces. Gunfireâs full-length debut, Songs For Trash, was engineered & produced by Ryan Foltz of Rancid/ Dropkick Murphyâs fame at Cleveland Audio Studios. The band is currently booking dates for venues large and small. Read...

Bloodied noses! Car crashes! Police harassment! Jealous boyfriends! These were just a few of the hazards that faced the beat groups who roamed Australia during the mid-sixties. Despite these obstacles (perhaps because of them) a number of homegrown acts came to epitomise the down and dirty sound of the Antipodean underground. Released in 2004 by Melbourne Community Radio Station 3CR, the book (by Iain McIntyre and Ian D Marks) and accompanying tribute CD (featuring 19 of Melbourne's toppest...

Gilesi over at the amazing music blog “Cosmic Minds at Play” once mused about the Duke City garage band scene in 1960s: “I have no idea what Albuquerque, New Mexico was like as a place to live in the mid 60s but it certainly seems to have had more than its fair share of top class garage bands, so I can only assume that there was a wild scene going on among its young denizens.” Countless semi-pro and professional bands drew inspiration by watching The Fab Four’s landmark appearance on...

All the chicks liked the guitar players and the singers. My singing sounds like a brain damaged weasel on bad acid, so I figured I had to get a guitar. I found one I liked at a pawn shop, but of course I didn't have the money. I wasn't going to let that stand in my way though, I was now obsessed with a beautiful B.C. Rich. I swore I'd get it. I scanned the newspaper ads for ways to make a quick buck. The problem was I didn't want to work. A few days later my prayers were answered. A hospital...

It's been almost two years since defekt 86 released their album "Ultramarin". Finally now there's new material. Many may have thought, that there won't be any further releases anymore, in return this release seems the more interesting. The digital maxi-single "Suicide Hero" contains two songs: The title track is a loud uptempo song with the obligatory driving bass, noisy guitars in the refrain and electronic sound effects, which strain your ears quite hard, from time to...
